How Your ₦5,000 Feeds 70 People Every Day During Ramadan

Every Ramadan, while many of us enjoy iftar with our families, thousands of fasting souls in Damaturu and Kano have nowhere to break their fast. Al-Shifah Charity Foundation exists to change that — one meal, one day at a time. In Ramadan 1445 (2025), our team operated two feeding points simultaneously — one in Damaturu and one in Kano — serving fresh Akara balls, Panke, and Kunun giyada to over 70 individuals every day throughout the holy month. Here is exactly what your donations funded: Akara Balls Programme: We purchased 2 bags of beans, cooking oil, pepper, spices and packaging nylons. Total spent: ₦335,100. Every naira went directly to ingredients and cooking materials — no administrative waste. Panke Programme: Flour and yeast were sourced in Damaturu at ₦63,000. This was a Damaturu-only programme that fed dozens of families daily. Kunu (Millet Drink): We distributed over 1.5 bags of millet, 120,000 worth of sugar, and special Kunun gyada at our feeding points. Total: ₦335,000. Chilled Water Distribution: 5 bags of cold sachet water were distributed at mosques every single day of Ramadan — a small mercy in the scorching Northern heat. Total: ₦63,000. Raw Food Hampers: Rice, millet, and sugar hampers were distributed to families who could not attend the feeding points. Total: ₦85,000. Our total Ramadan 1445 expenditure was ₦891,600 — every kobo documented and accounted for. This Ramadan 1447 (2026), we are planning bigger. We aim to serve at both locations with an expanded menu, distribute chilled water to 10 bags per day, give cash disbursements of ₦5,000 to at least 20 beneficiaries, and distribute food hampers to more families.
